Loving the Questions: An Exploration of the Nicene Creed
This fall the Rev. Cheryl Minor and others will take us through the Nicene Creed step by step, asking a series of questions that acquaint us with the fourth-century historical background and remind us of the creed’s theological, corporate, and personal relevance today. Whenever possible Cheryl will include Godly Play stories that will enrich our understanding of this Creed.
As is our custom now at All Saints’, Tuesday nights throughout the fall will include a catered dinner and time of fellowship for children and adults from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. At 7:00 the Adult Education will begin, and the Youth Choir will rehearse. Younger children will be cared for in the Cradle Care Room, and older children not participating in the choir will be provided with a supervised homework space. The Tuesday night series will begin on September 25 and continue through November 27 (a total of ten evenings).
September 25 Asking the Questions We believe…
October 2 Who is God? We believe in God, the Father, the Almighty…
October 9 Who is Creator? Maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen…
October 16 Who is Jesus Christ? We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten not made, of one Being with the Father, through him all things were made.
October 23 What is Salvation? For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
October 30 Who is God the Spirit? We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.
November 6 What is the Church? We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
November 13 What is Baptism? We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
November 20 What is Our Future? We look for the resurrection of the dead And the life of the world to come.
November 27 What Difference Does It Make? Amen.
